ALBUM // Phonophani – Kreken

Espen Sommer Eide has been releasing albums under the name Phonophani since the bubbling electronic ambiance of his 1998 eponymous debut. His work then and now has the electro-organic feeling of Wolfgang Voigt’s Gas project or the quieter moments of Düsseldorf’s Mouse on Mars, or the arboreal sounds of the Finnish artists released on the Fonal label. The excellent new album Kreken is filled with dusty strings and odd, stuttering rhythms; it is a jazz record for gnomes. Five of its songs may be streamed from soundcloud:
