SHOW // Hundreds & SDNMT – Volksbühne, Berlin (01.01.2011)

What a start into a new year:

Past met present met future when Hundreds and SDNMT (formerly known as Seidenmatt) played the sold-out Volksbühne yesterday. Hundreds celebrated the end of a perfect year and maybe the start of another great one, with an international release and shows at the SXSW coming up, while SDNMT played their first show in Berlin after a long break.
Hundreds easily convinced the audience with their new show now featuring two live drummers. Everything just seemed perfect, the music was touching and only sometimes did the lights feel a little too harsh for a new years day.
After two encores, “curtain calls”, standing ovations and what not, it was time for SDNMT to enter the stage and start their set with the amazing “From Hero To Zero” off their last record “The Goal Is To Make the Animals Happy”. I was so glad to see one of my favorite instrumental bands again, a group that shaped my musical taste like few others.
Apart from older material ,they also performed a few new songs (including this one), so hopefully there will be some new material available this new year.
In my eyes, the combination of these two great bands made a lot of sense (not just because they’re on the same label) and it is good to see that you don’t have to be from a place so far away to play beautiful shows like this and find a receptive audience.

What else is there to say? This should be a good year.
